  • Why on earth would you jump to the assumption he was a cross dresser? He could have simply been in the habit if wearing cowboy boots or dress shoes. Back then dress shoes had a fair heel and boots still do. The evidence in the suitcase seems to indicate he was a sailor. Have you seen the heels on their shoes back then?

  • I’ve read several reports of this case and many theories about who the dead man was. The most prevalent theory is that he was a spy from a middle eastern nation who had either blown his cover or was found out by someone within British intelligence (ie an English spy or spy hunter working for England). The theory goes on to propose that the alleged spy knew his killer and that they had a civilised discussion prior to his poisoning. The man seen carrying the dead man across the beach was likely the spy hunter and the man was not dead whilst being carried (although he had already been poisoned and was in the process of dying). It is also alleged that the spy hunter gave the spy a cigarette to enjoy in his dying breaths (hence the half smoked cigarette found on the dead man’s person) as an act of civility and respect.

  • I live in Adelaide, there has just been a grant approved to exhume him from the West Terrace Cemetery to utilise modern forensics to hope determine cause of death and/or identity. Staff availablity pending, they plan to exhume him in a couple of weeks. There's so much more to this story, some urban legend, some theory, some weird fact.

  • Only one of the following landmarks existed in 1948, and none were ever in Adelaide: Sydney Tower, the Sydney Opera House, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Using pictures of Centrepoint and the Opera House to reference Adelaide in 1948 is like using pictures of the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty to reference Austin Texas in 1848.

  • A Soviet defector perhaps. He well might have been a ballet dancer as ballet is a huge part of Russian culture and popular amongst the socialite well connected crowd in the west who'd be thrilled to have a dancer trained in Russia on the quiet. He could have been a double agent whom the code of this book is the enigma code of the cold War of sorts. He was to spy for the US and promised a new life but rather on the other side of the world in Australia through alliance and cooperation. The kgb caught up to the man and through its experience of fast acting and fast dussolving poisons, assassinate him. Australia trying to be impartial shrugged and there you go

    joe grimesjoe grimes6 päivää sitten
    • The effort to expunge tags and the like is probably some attempt to completely remove any trace he has connections outside Australia as even some gumshoe would probably figure his clothes might be of US or Soviet origin. These guys are meticulous a ussr spy was caught out in the USA because he held a bunch of flowers pointed down and not upright. In the west we hold them like we are presenting them crooked arm. In the east they pointed them downward, I assumed to avoid petals and drips. So who knows
